Emilbek Kaptagayev, the former head of the Presidential Administration of Kyrgyzstan, proposed to rename Bishkek city into Manas. He worte his idea on Facebook, reports 24kg.
"In order later, after a number of years, to have no temptations, maybe we should immediately rename the capital into Manas city? It would be fair from all points of view ... To name the current Sverdlovsk district of the capital Bishkek district, after all, there is the Pishpek fortification (for some reason called Kuznechnaya Krepost) and, possibly, Bishkek settlement", he posted.
Moreover, Emilbek Kaptagaev added that the existence and actions of a certain Bishkek baatyr (hero) remain controversial.
"There is not a single historically reliable source, except for legends, which for some obscure reason are growing more and more detailed each year", he posted.
In addition, many people who commented his post supported this idea and others were against to rename Bishkek into Manas.
Recall, it should be noted that on March 23, Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree on renaming Astana into Nur-Sultan.
