The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, suggested renaming Astana in honor of the First President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.

"It is necessary to immortalize the name of our contemporary - the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. Our capital should bear the name of our President and be called Nursultan. I would like to add that this proposal was already expressed by parliamentarians", - said Tokayev.

Besides, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed to name the central streets of the cities in the name of Nursultan Nazarbayev. He also noted that the portraits of the First President of Kazakhstan in buildings and offices will not be taken.

In addition, yesterday, the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev spoke to the people of Kazakhstan on the air of republican TV channels, stating that he resigns from the presidency.
