Foreign investors invested $ 300 billion in Kazakhstan's economy during the years of independence, said Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, in the press conference as part of an official visit to the United States.
He noted the importance of peaceful settlement of conflicts in Ukraine, Syria, as well as warming between Russia and the United States. The President mentioned that peaceful policy and the renunciation of nuclear weapons allowed Kazakhstan to win the confidence of investors.
‘During 25 years of independence, $ 300 billion of foreign direct investment was sent to Kazakhstan, which is 80% of all investments in the region. Now, the US company Chevron invests $ 35 billion into the Tengiz economy. The development of Kashagan cost us $ 55 billion. Other companies, they all work for the economy of Kazakhstan’, Nursultan Nazarbayev said.
Per him, Kazakhstan enjoys such confidence in foreign investors since it refused to use nuclear weapons. ‘And if we were a nuclear power, no we would look like North Korea’, Kazakh President compared.
