Tajikistan needs more than $ 1 billion to fully provide the population of the republic with drinking water. Moreover, this amount does not include the cost of maintaining the state of water supply facilities.

Jamshed Tabarzoda, head of the state unitary enterprise Hochagii Manzili-Kommunali told journalists that the implementation of a state program to improve the provision of Tajikistan’s population with clean drinking water, which was adopted in 2008, will be completed in 2020. Up to this time, it is planned to build more than 20 water supply facilities, reports Asia-Plus. From 2021, a new state program will be adopted, also designed for several years.

According to him, over the years of the current state program, thanks to cooperation with a number of international financial organizations, the percentage of the population with access to clean drinking water has increased from 43% to 62%. However, among the rural population this indicator is still low - only 38% of people. Moreover, more than 70% of the population of the republic lives in rural areas.
