Turkmenistan began to detain distributors of rumors about the death of President Berdymukhamedov

In Turkmenistan, at least three people were detained on charges of spreading rumors about the death of President of the republic Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, which are contributing to the destabilization of the situation in the country. 

The detainees included an employee of the Lebap branch of Turkmentelekom, a water worker and an employee of the local housing and utilities sector.

According to the local media, security forces in Ashgabat and in the regions were transferred to an enhanced version of the service to combat rumors about the death or the poor health of the president.

Unofficial reports about the death of Berdymukhamedov appeared on July 24, when the president went on vacation. After that, his press service had to publish several documents signed by him. Then the president himself interrupted the holidays in order to pose in front of the television cameras: he examined the development projects of Ashgabat and at the same time presented himself to the nation alive.
