The United States has increased its aid to Uzbekistan three times in the past two years, reports the US Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Alice Wells.
As stated by her, Washington sent 10,1 million dollars to Tashkent in 2016. In 2018 this amount was 28,1 million dollars.
Alice Wells noted that the increase of US financial assistance to Uzbekistan is a key factor in Washington’s support for the current reform program.
Moreover, Alice Wells arrived in Tashkent on February 26 to attend the US-Uzbek political council. On the same day she had a meeting with the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
In addition, it was noted that since the previous round of consultations, bilateral relations have reached a new stage of development. The official visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the United States in May 2018 and its successful results opened a new page in multifaceted relations between the two countries.
