From 23 to 25 February, 16 people were detained in Zhanaozen, Kazakhstan. They were taken into custody for a period of five to seven days, reports the prosecutor's office of Mangystau region.
According to the authority, the reasons for the detention were “pollution of public places and other intentional acts expressing disrespect for society”.
Moreover, the prosecutor's office reported that a criminal case was opened against a resident of Zhanaozen under the article on “inciting social, national, ethnic, racial strife”. According to the criminal code, the punishment for this offense is imprisonment for a term of two to seven years.
Earlier, the Mangistau region Police Department denied the information on the prosecution of some residents of Zhanaozen, who were demanding employment.
Recall, it should be noted that last week, dozens of residents of Zhanaozen demanded that the authorities provide them jobs with high wages. They met with the Deputy Prosecutor of the Mangystau region Yerzhan Turmagambetov.
In addition, it is worth noting that yesterday a group of people protested in front of building "Nur Otan" party in Almaty and demanded resignation of the president of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.
