About 200 builders staged a strike in western Kazakhstan, Aksai city. Employees of a large construction company KKS-SICIM refused to go to work, demanding higher wages, reports the "Oral Week". About 200 people participated in the action.
Information about the incident was confirmed in the company itself. Executive Director of KKS-SICIM Altyn Kulbayeva said that the management had met with the strikers. “We found a compromise, and now everyone has returned to their duties”, - she noted.
In addition, it is worth noting that the main oil fields of the country are concentrated in the western part of Kazakhstan. Employees associated with their development companies often hold protests. In 2017, dozens of workers at the oilfield service company Techno Trading LTD in the village of Kyzyltobe, Mangystau region, expressed their dissatisfaction with working conditions by announcing a hunger strike. A similar action was organized by the employees of the oilfield service Oil Construction Company (OCC) in the city of Aktau - they refused to eat, demanding to register the Confederation of independent trade unions of Kazakhstan.
In 2011, in Zhanaozen, the nearly eight-month strike of the oil industry resulted in a violent confrontation between the authorities and protesters. On December 16, riots broke out, which were reportedly provoked by a group of provocateurs in the KazMunaiGaz uniform. As a result, the police and internal troops shot the strikers. According to official figures, 16 people were killed, about 100 injured.
