On December 11, the US State Department published its annual report on the status of religious freedom in the world. Uzbekistan in the new report was removed from the list of "Countries of Particular Concern".
Uzbekistan was included in this list in 2006 after a sharp deterioration in religious freedom in the country and the imprisonment of thousands of believers.
Uzbekistan was on this list along with China, Eritrea, Iran, Myanmar, North Korea, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
At the same time, in the new report, Uzbekistan is not recognized as a country that adheres to the principles of religious freedom. The United States included Uzbekistan on a special watch list for governments.
Recall, in May of this year, the US Department of State welcomed the steps taken to improve the situation of religious freedom in Uzbekistan, recognizing that this process is slow. In this regard, Uzbekistan remained in the list of countries "limiting religious freedom".
