Uzbekistan is recognized as the safest travel country in Central Asia. The level of threats to tourists here is as low as, for example, in most EU countries, reports experts of International SOS and Control Risks companies.
At the same time, the Fergana Valley is categorized as a high-risk area. This category includes countries or individual regions where, according to experts of International SOS, mass anti-government demonstrations are possible, during which protesters may attack foreigners, or a high crime rate, or ethnic or religious clashes are possible. In addition, a “high level of danger” for travelers exists in areas bordering Afghanistan with the Surkhandarya region of Uzbekistan.
The remaining countries of Central Asia, with the exception of Afghanistan, are classified as “medium risk”. For example, Russia, India, Turkey and Israel fell into this category. The “high level of danger” was noted in the regions of Tajikistan bordering on Afghanistan and in southern Kyrgyzstan, where in 2010 there were clashes between Kyrgyz and Uzbeks.
Afghanistan is among the countries with the “extreme high level of danger” for travelers - along with Iraq, Syria and Yemen.
