Recently, international organization "Reporters Without Borders" has published rankings of freedom of speech. According to them, Kazakhstan ranks 158th in the rating.
A few days ago, Minister of Information and Communications Dauren Abayev explained why Kazakhstan is at the bottom of the Freedom Rating Index in the program "Open Dialogue" on the channel "Khabar".
"I do not wanna misinterpret myself with any illusions about freedom of expression in the country. We have a position and direction regarding what to do and what to correct. This is a normal, evolutionary process. At present time, Kazakhstan is developing the democracy. I believethat the rating of freedom of speech is not objective, and there are some mistakes in its methodology", - noted the Minister.
Moreover, the Minister mentioned as an example about Mexico which was killed 140 journalists since 2000, and also to Botswana, which was destroyed archives of the media.
In addition, it is interesting to note that Russia ranks - 148, Uzbekistan - 165, Belarus - 155, Tajikistan - 149, Kyrgyzstan - 98.
