On November 14, the first nationwide dictation on alphabet based on the Latin script of the Kazakh language has begun in Kazakhstan. Dictation is held in specially equipped auditoriums of universities in several cities.
Dictation starts at 11:00 and ends at 11:30. The event is organized in order to popularize the new Kazakh alphabet and to learn the Kazakh language based on Latin graphics.
According to the correspondent of Azattyk Radio, one of the dictatorial places in Almaty is Kazakh-British Technical University, and 400 people came to University to write dictation. The dictations are mainly attended by eight district akimat's employees and students of Almaty. Experts of the Institute of Linguistics named after Akhmet Baitursynuly explained the rules before the beginning of Dictation.
The organizers said that at the end everyone would check their writing.
In addition, it is interesting to note that The President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, in the beginning of last year instructed the government to develop a project of the Kazakh alphabet in Latin until 2017 and to develop a clear schedule for the Kazakh language to be translated into the Latin alphabet. Thereafter, two versions of the Latin alphabet were introduced and both were criticized.
So, Nursultan Nazarbayev made a decree on February 19 and approved a new version of Kazakh alphabet based on Latin graphics.
