In the north of Tajikistan, several people died while suppressing a riot of prisoners in a strict regime colony located in the 16th district of the city of Khudjand.
Riots in prison began on the night of November 8, the source said. The reason for the riot of prisoners is still unknown. Militia Special Forces were thrown into prison, the riot was put down. "The rioters were armed with cold weapons. An investigation into the causes of the incident was started", - said a source.
During the suppression of the rebellion people were killed. "So far, the number of dead and injured is unknown. According to the information, several prisoners suffered while trying to escape. Some managed to leave the facility’s territory", said on the source.
It was reported that from 10.30 pm to 11 pm shooting was heard on the territory of the colony. However, the Khudjand Department of Correctional Services denied this information, while confirming that an alarm was announced.
According to eyewitnesses, in all roads of the city, as well as highways leading to neighboring Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, reinforced security posts were installed. The authorities of Tajikistan have not yet reported about the revolt in the Khudjand prison.
