United States Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross paid an official visit to Tashkent on October 23. The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev welcomed him. The two sides held talks on trade and economic relations between the United States and Uzbekistan during the meeting.
After the talks, the President of the US-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce Carolyn Lamm amde a statement at the American-Uzbek Business Forum. She noted: "We heard that Russia has reached an agreement with Uzbekistan yesterday. We have decided to sign an even bigger deal with official Tashkent to increase the level of trade and investment cooperation. The US-Uzbekistan memorandum is only the beginning of the deal. The US companies are already ready to invest US 9 billion dollars in projects of Uzbekistan".
Before this, Russian President paid an official visit to Tashkent. Vladimir Putin and Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed 12 intergovernmental agreements in Tashkent during this meeting. Of these, 27 billion dollars is interregional, 1,76 billion dollar in trade and 25,3 billion dollar in investment contracts. In addition, the two sides agreed to start construction of the first nuclear power plant in Central Asia.
Under the agreement, the construction of the nuclear power plant to be carried out with the participation of Russian "Rosatom" company.
Moreover, the United States and Russia can not be compared in this situation in terms of making agreement with Uzbekistan. However, if we talk about companies and investments of the US in Uzbekistan, it is obvious that official Washington has always taken into consideration Tashkent. The United States invested 1 trillion dollars in Uzbekistan between 1998-2017. According to the nine months of this current year, commodity turnover between the two countries has doubled to 332 million dollars At present, 210 enterprises with US companies are operating on the territory of Uzbekistan. In a word, the US and Russia's struggle for Uzbekistan came to a new level with the arrival of Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
In general, Tashkent has been making an effort in keeping its good relations both countries, with the USA and with Russia after Shavkat Mirziyoyev has come to power. Although Mirzieev started his first trip to Moscow after his election as a president, he did not lose contact with Washington. This bond has grown even stronger after his visit to Washington in May. So far, Tashkent has maintained a balance between the two giant. However, the future is unknown that with which country Uzbekistan will hold good relations.
