The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria have approved an application from the Republic of Kazakhstan for the allocation of grant funds for the HIV component in the amount of 4.5 million US dollars for 2018-2020, reports press club of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Healthcare.
The goal of the grant is to create a sustainable national response to the spread of HIV infection in Kazakhstan by institutionalizing the system of social contracts to increase access to prevention, care and support services for vulnerable groups and people living with HIV.
The grant will aim at strengthening the legal and regulatory framework for funding and implementation mechanisms for HIV activities among key vulnerable groups: injecting drug users, men who have sex with men, sex workers, including schemes for the implementation of social orders for non-governmental organizations. The grant will be implemented in the cities of Astana, Almaty and the Karaganda region.
Recall, every year more than two million Kazakhstani are tested for HIV infection. Nowadays, people living with HIV infection in Kazakhstan is 19 183. Out of them children until age 14 is 393. Most of them live in South Kazakhstan region, is 229 children.
