The Russian space-rocket complex currently under construction in Baikonur to launch medium-light and medium-heavy launch vehicles Soyuz-6 and Soyuz-5 was named in honor of the first president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, Russian Roskosmos reports.

The agreement on the construction of the complex was signed in 2018 at Baikonur. It used to be called Baiterek. However, during a meeting between Nazarbayev and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow last week, when politicians visited the Kazakhstan Pavilion together, the Russian president proposed renaming the complex.

It is assumed that the first rocket starts from Nazarbayev in 2022.
