A known Tajik opposition activist, Sharofiddin Gadoyev, claims that the authorities of Tajikistan kidnapped him last month, tortured him and put pressure on him to support President Rahmon’s eldest son in the presidential elections scheduled for 2020.
Sharofiddin Gadoyev, a member of "The group 24" opposition movement banned in Tajikistan, made this statement during an interview in Amsterdam, where he returned after two weeks in Dushanbe. The Netherlands had previously granted refugee status to Gadoyev.
“They plan that I become the leader of the 17 members of "The group of 24", who returned to Tajikistan, and eventually supported the policies of President Rahmon and (his son) Rustam Emomali”, - noted Gadoyev.
Moreover, according to him, the instructions came from the chairman of the State Committee for National Security Saimumin Yatimov.
