“On January 8, the founding congress of the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan was held. At the congress, a decision was made to create the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan. The members of the central council and the central control and revision commission were elected, the program and the charter of the party were adopted, and appropriate decisions were made on other issues,” the party organizing committee reports.
The new party will be the successor to the Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan, which had 15 guaranteed seats in the lower house of parliament.
In December 2017, the President of Uzbekistan, speaking with a message to the parliament, proposed to abandon the quota of seats for the Ecological Movement, and the party - on an equal footing with other political forces to participate in elections to the lower house. In this regard, a new political party of environmental orientation was created.
Four political parties are officially registered in Uzbekistan - the Liberal Democratic Party, the Democratic Party “Milly Tiklanish”, the People’s Democratic Party and the Social Democratic Party “Adolat” .
