Deputy of Kyrgyzstan Tazabek Ikramov made a statement at a meeting of the Kyrgyz Parliament concerning threats to national security.
In particular, he fears that "citizens of foreign countries working in Kyrgyzstan will soon threaten national security".
“Foreigners marry Kyrgyz women and get Kyrgyz citizenship. This is a big problem. If we do not notice this problem, in the next 20 years there will be big problems in the field of national security. Foreign citizens are working at Kara-Suu market in the Osh region, at the Dordoi and Madina markets in Bishkek. They, competing with our citizens, push them out of business. Funds held by the public are exported abroad. There is a risk that Kyrgyzstan may become a province of a foreign state. This is our big problem for the next 10 years”, - noted Tazabekov.
Ikramov also demanded that the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State National Security Committee should determine within 45 days how many foreigners work in Kyrgyzstan and how many have stopped in the last 5 years.
Officially, Kyrgyzstan annually issues 16-17 thousand quotas to foreigners to work in the republic. About 70% of them are citizens of China.
