During the year, the population of Kazakhstan increased by 237.4 thousand people or 1.3%, Zakon.kz reports.

The population of the country as of October 1, 2018 was 18,334.3 thousand people, including urban population - 10,597.2 thousand people (57.8%), rural population - 7,737.1 thousand people (42.2%).

The largest overall increase was observed in the cities of republican significance: Shymkent (67,429 people), Almaty (55,139 people) and Astana (40,113 people).
