The presidents of Russia, Vladimir Putin and Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyev, gave a symbolic start to the start of construction of the first nuclear power plant (NPP) in Uzbekistan, the Rosatom company reports.
“The NPP construction project involves the construction of 2 power units (with a total capacity of 2.4 GW - KazTAG) with VVER-1200 reactors. The power units belong to the “3+” generation and fully comply with modern IAEA safety requirements,” the message reads.
In addition,during the event, a memorandum on cooperation in education and training in the field of nuclear energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan was signed between Rosatom, the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan and Uzatom agency. The document provides for the establishment of cooperation in the field of training for the needs of nuclear energy and related areas.
The memorandum also involves cooperation in the organization of activities in Tashkent branch of the National Research Nuclear University "MEPhI".
