Costs of higher education increased by 11% in Kazakhstan

The number of university students in the 2017-2018 academic year was 496.2 thousand people. This is 4% more than a year earlier, according to Ranking.

More than half of the students study at universities in Almaty, SKO and Astana. In Almaty, there are 131.3 thousand students, which is only 0.4% more than in the 2016-2017 school year. The share of the total number of students in the Republic of Kazakhstan for the year decreased from 27.4% to 26.5%.

The volume of services provided in the field of higher education for the year 2017 amounted to KZT 276.3 billion, which is 6.4% more than in 2016.

The most significant growth was recorded in the segment of services rendered at the expense of the population's funds, at once by 11.1%, to KZT 112.6 billion. This amounts to 40.8% of the total volume of services rendered in the field of higher education. The growth in the segment of educational services at the expense of the budget was only 3%.

During the 2016/2017 academic year, the number of Kazakhstani students increased by 4% to 477,000. 70.6% of them study for a fee. 17 thousand Kazakhstani students dropped out of school due to financial difficulties.
