Uzbekistan received 5 million euros from the European Union (EU) for a project to support accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), reports the Ministry of Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan.

The EU decision was announced during a meeting on January 21 with the head of the EU delegation in Uzbekistan Edward Steeprays and the head of the technical cooperation department of the delegation Francois Bejo. The sides discussed issues of attracting EU assistance in the process of Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO.

“The EU has allocated 5 million euros for Uzbekistan for a project to support accession to the WTO, which will be implemented by the International Trade Center (ITC) of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and the World Trade Organization,” Bejo said.

Also, considering EU procedures for approving projects, the EU delegation confirmed that ITC, without waiting for the completion of these procedures, will begin practical implementation of the project in the near future.
