In place of the dried up Aral Sea, a new desert appeared, which led to an ecological catastrophe that had a negative impact on the lives of millions of people. This was stated by Executive Director of the Regional Environmental Center of Central Asia Iskandar Abdullayev at the conference "Joint actions to mitigate the consequences of the Aral catastrophe" in Tashkent, reports Anadoly agency.
According to him, the countries of Central Asia should learn from the Aral catastrophe and prevent the occurrence of other similar natural disasters.
The coordinator of the programs of the Agency for Cooperation and Coordination under the Government of Turkey (TİKA) in Tashkent, Ali Ihsan Chaglar noted that the drying out of the Aral Sea is a problem not only for the Central Asian region, but for the whole world.
According to him, TİKA is implementing a number of projects in the basin of the dried up Aral Sea to improve the socio-economic and environmental situation. In this connection, on the territory of 100 hectares, works are carried out on gardening.
Annually about 100 million tons of dust rises from the dried up areas of the Aral Sea bottom. This leads to the spread of various diseases in the region, worsening the ecological and socio-economic situation.
