Serik Amangaliyev, the former deputy head of the Mangystau region received 10 years for a bribe from a hockey playerand deprived of his right to hold government posts for life.
The former official will serve his sentence in a minimum security colony.
The former official was also stripped of the Kurmet state award. However, the court did not order the confiscation of property.
Amangaliyev was detained on November 3, 2018 at Aktau International Airport. He was discovered 115 thousand euros. The money was reportedly handed over to a former official by a former hockey player from Slovakia, Jan Hovan, who previously played in two Kazakhstan teams.
