On June 26, the Tashkent City Court sentenced former Uzbek Prosecutor General Rashid Kadyrov to 10 years in prison. The court condemned him for taking a bribe, extortion, fraud, tax evasion, interference with a fair trial.
12 others also were sentenced with Kadyrov. They were sentenced for various periods. The maximum length of time is 19 years.
Kadyrov was detained in February last year. The trial began in January.
In addition, Rashid Kadyrov, who were heading the Uzbek Prosecutor-General's Office for 15 years, was criticized several times by the current president, Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Mirziyoyev in August 2017 called the prosecution's staff "thieves".
