The meeting was attended by the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev, presidents of the Republic of Belarus - Alexander Lukashenko, the Kyrgyz Republic - Sooronbay Zheenbekov, the Russian Federation - Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, chairman of the EEC board Tigran Sargsyan, reports the press service of Akorda.
In his welcoming speech, the President of Kazakhstan stressed that this summit was timed to the celebration of two anniversaries - the 25th anniversary of the idea of Eurasian N. Nazarbayev on Eurasian integration and the 5th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union.
“Thanks to political insight, the strategic vision of the First President of Kazakhstan, the idea of Eurasian integration has been put into practice,” said the Head of State.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, on behalf of the Republic of Kazakhstan, expressed his gratitude to President of Russia V. Putin for the proposal to assign the title of Honorary Chairman of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council to Mr. Elbasy N. Nazarbayev and thanked the heads of the EAEU member states for their joint support for this initiative.
The President of Kazakhstan highly appreciated the chairmanship of the Russian Federation in the EAEU in 2018 and expressed confidence that the Republic of Armenia as chairman will further strengthen the organization.
During the meeting, the heads of state exchanged views on topical issues of activities and development prospects of the EAEU, and also discussed the main guidelines of the Union’s macroeconomic policy for 2019-2020.
