In the Fragile States Index 2019, Tajikistan is in 65th place (among 178 countries of the world), which is two steps higher than last year’s rating. Despite a slight improvement in position, the republic is still considered the most "incapable" country in the post-Soviet space, reports Asia plus.
A relatively high place among the former republics of the Soviet Union is expected to be occupied by the Baltic Latvia (152nd place), Estonia (146) and Lithuania (142).
Kazakhstan is in the ranking in 116th place, Armenia - 105, Moldova - 103, Belarus - 99, Ukraine - 91, Turkmenistan - 85, Georgia - 81, Azerbaijan - 76, Russia - 73, Uzbekistan - 70, and Kyrgyzstan on 68 place.
The first three places in the ranking (the weakest states) are occupied by Yemen, Somalia and South Sudan. At the last, 178th place is Finland (the most stable state).
The authors of the study believe that the rating can be used by governments to analyze problematic issues in their policies and help develop strategies that could reduce the likelihood of conflicts.
