Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Switzerland, Zhanar Aitzhanova, met with Federal Counselor and Head of the Federal Department of Economics, Education and Science of the Swiss Confederation Guy Parmelin, reports the press service of MFA.

During the meeting, Z.Aitzhanova noted the dynamics of the development of trade and economic cooperation between Astana and Bern in the light of the agreements reached during the visit by Swiss delegation to Kazakhstan in July 2018, familiarizing the Swiss part with the implementation of infrastructure projects under the "Nurly Zhol" state program and "Belt and Road" initiative.

Mr. Parmelin confirmed the Swiss side's intentions to strengthen the Kazakh-Swiss partnership, welcoming the expansion of the bilateral legal framework. Kazakhstan and Switzerland are at the final stage of negotiations for signing a bilateral Agreement on the mutual recognition of brands, as well as for amendment to the existing Agreement on trade and economic cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Swiss Federal Council of May 12, 1994 by an Annex in the field of internal regulation of trade on services .

During the conversation, the parties also discussed issues of the next meeting of the Kazakh-Swiss Trade and Economic Commission, scheduled to be held in 2019.
The volume of Kazakhstani-Swiss commodity turnover in 2018 reached $ 3 billion. Switzerland is one of the largest foreign investors in the economy of Kazakhstan. About 40 Swiss companies are represented on the Kazakh market.
