In 2023, KazSat-2 satellite will be replaced by a new one, KazSat-2R. Nowadays, the project is at the stage of development and financial and economic expertise, Vice Minister Marat Nurguzhin said during the reporting board of the Ministry of Defense and Aerospace Industry. He also said that Kazakhstan plans to provide satellite communications services to Central Asian countries.
“Today, our republic has its own space communication system, consisting of the satellites KazSat-2 and KazSat-3 and ground control complexes. In 2023, the operation of the KazSat-2 satellite will be completed and the replacement of the KazSat-2R spacecraft is planned to replace it, said M.Nurguzhin.
According to him, the task of the project “KazSat-2R” is to maintain the existing communication networks operating via the satellite “KazSat-2” and to export satellite communications services to the countries of Central Asia.
“Today, negotiations are underway with foreign manufacturers in the field of telecommunications satellites, the selection of the general contractor for the creation of KazSat-2R will be carried out on the basis of competitive procedures. At the moment, this project is at the stage of developing and passing financial and economic expertise,” the ministry noted.
"Last year, revenues from the operation of space systems increased by 25% compared with 2017 - from 6.5 billion tenge to 8.9 billion tenge," the press service of the ministry reports.
