The cost of utilities has doubled since the new year in Turkmenistan and since 2015 they have risen in price by 60 times.
The cost of services amounted to 7 manats 40 tenge (more than 2 dollars) for each square meter of living space, and from January 1 of this year, Turkmen people will have to pay 16 manats 90 tenge (4,7 dollars) per 1 square meter of living space.
According to the correspondent of Azatlyk in Ashgabat, for the last two days, workers of the House of Administrations and wipers in the capital microdistrict Mir have been going around apartments and giving residents a receipt for the annual payment for utilities.
“These receipts are filled by the employees of the house administrations themselves. In 2018, payment for services for an apartment of 54 m2 was 400 manats per year. This year, the cost rose to 893 manats 20 tenge. We were told that this payment includes maintenance of living space, heating and garbage collection. But they did not explain exactly how much of this amount each service will cover", - reported correspondent of Azatlyk.
In addition, the increase in utility bills in Turkmenistan coincided with the ongoing food crisis, as well as the complete abolition of benefits for free gas, electricity and water.
Moreover, it should be noted that the average salary in Turkmenistan is about 800 manats (222 dollars).
