A study conducted by the international organization International Alert in Tajikistan shows that men prefer to “educate” their women with beatings, curses, and threats to divorce.

Each step of the 40-year-old Dilorom is under control. Her phone must be turned on all the time, she must answer the phone immediately and not leave the house without permission.

“When I ask permission to go somewhere, the husband says,“ j go and back immediately” and if I’m late, he starts accusing me of having deceived him. “You went to another place, you did not go to the doctor, or to the parents” he accuses me. Wherever I am, I try to return home quickly, for fear of my husband's reaction to my lateness", - said Dilorom. The woman says that she is not afraid of beatings, she is afraid that her husband may divorce with her.

Nine out of ten women, or 90% of respondents in a sociological survey conducted by the Committee on Statistics with funds from international organizations, noted that they, like Dilorom, are often afraid of their husbands. 39 percent of women said they were constantly fearful, and 51 percent of women surveyed said that they sometimes fear anger from their husbands.

This survey was conducted in 8 thousand households of Tajikistan and covered 10 thousand women aged from 15 to 49 years. A report on the study, which confirmed the prevalence of domestic violence in Tajikistan, says that most women fear that any step they take may cause an outbreak of jealousy or anger from a spouse.

Fear of divorce and beatings are called one of the main reasons for women's fear of their husbands. More than 30 percent of women were physically and sexually abused by their husbands.
