The Parliament of Kyrgyzstan on December 13, supported in the first reading a bill on the deprivation of the status of immunity of ex-presidents. “For” 100 deputies voted, “against” - two. In the voting, according to the scoreboard, 102 deputies out of 120 participated.

Corresponding changes in the law were initiated by members of parliament Iskhak Masaliev and Kurmankul Zulushev.

The authors of the amendments consider that article 12 of this law, which guarantees the inviolability of the ex-president, is contrary to the Constitution, which contains the principle of equality before the law for all citizens. So, they propose to exclude this article.

The deputies also propose to amend Article 3, according to which the current president has immunity and cannot be brought to justice.

Moreover, Article 18, which guarantees the protection of the honor and dignity of the ex-president, is completely abolished.

Recall, it is interesting to note that Roza Otunbayeva and Almazbek Atambayev have the status of ex-president of Kyrgyzstan. Askar Akaev and Kurmanbek Bakiyev after revolutions were deprived of this status.
