On 3-4 December 2018, in Almaty, the Regional Dialogue on “Youth Involvement and Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) - Analysis of the Relationship" was organized and successfully held by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), reports the press service of Kazakh MFA.
The UN Resident Coordinator / Permanent Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Kazakhstan Norimasa Shimomura, Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Social Development Sergey Konovalov and Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Stanislav Vassilenko made welcoming speeches .
In his speech, Mr. S. Vassilenko noted that Kazakhstan actively supports the leading role of the UN in the field of counterterrorism activities, based on its own and foreign expert experience and practice. Highlighting Kazakhstan's active participation in regional and global security systems, the Kazakh diplomat spoke about the large-scale measures implemented at the state level to neutralize challenges and risks in the context of ensuring national security, as well as improving the state-wide system for preventing extremist and terrorist manifestations.
The event was attended by representatives of UN agencies, state bodies, civil society and active youth from all five Central Asian countries. The purpose of the discussions was for the exchange of experiences and best practices in the field of policy and programs for the involvement of young people in the PVE.
A number of important issues were discussed, including the exchange of expert opinion on matters including conducting research experiments in Afghanistan to identify the root causes of radicalization of young people in Afghan society. It also included the problem of the “delayed effect" of the return of wives and children of militants from conflict zones.
