Reporters Without Borders has criticized Tajikistan because of blocking news websites. According to them, Tajikistan adheres to China's Internet censorship model.
According to the International Organization,on November 6, Tajik authorities blocked social media and news websites when residents of Khorog went to the strike. Especially, the authorities in Tajikistan blocked social networking sites such as "Asia-plus" news portal, YouTube, Facebook, VKontakte and Odnoklassniki. Moreover, WhatsApp and Telegram messengers are also disabled.
"Massive Internet censorship should not be allowed. So, International community should not adopt the Chinese model", - said Johannes Bir, Head of Eastern Europe and Central Asia Department at Reporters Without Borders.
In addition, Nuriddin Karshiboyev, the head of Tajikistan's Independent Media Association, describes power as "administrative feudalism. "We always say that to block websites violates the constitutional rights of citizens", - mentioned Karshiboyev.
Recall, it should be noted that a few weeks ago, the government of Kazakhstan issued a decree on "Blocking the Internet in extreme conditions". According to the decree, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Security Committee, the Ministry of Defense and the Prosecutor have the right to block the Internet.
