The opening ceremony of the project was attended by Ambassador of Kazakhstan in Egypt Arman Isagaliev, Egyptian Minister of Ancient Monuments Khaled al-Anani, chief contractor of "Arab Contractors" Company Muhsin Salah, government officials, journalists, historians, activists and local people, reports the press service of the Kazakh MFA.
Egyptian Minister of Ancient Monuments Khaled al-Anani noted that it is the second largest mosque in Cairo and it is a historically important object for Cairo.
"This mosque is a political symbol of the relationship between Kazakhstan and Egypt. The leadership and people of Kazakhstan, pay great attention to the completion of the Beibarys sultan's mosque. This issue is one of the agreements reached between the leaders of the two countries during the visit of the Egyptian President Abdul-Fattah Khalil al-Sisi to Astana in 2016", - said Kh. al-Anani.
Cost of the project is 12 million dollars and Kazakhstan has allocated 4,5 million dollars for mosque restoration. In its turn Egypt has transferred 100 million Egyptian pound.
Recover works are expected to finish within 18 months.
