On February 1, 2018, the reserves of gold metal of Kazakhstan's National Bank exceeded 301 tons or 40.2% of the international reserves of the country, reports the World Gold Council.
For comparison, at the end of 2017, they were 291.9 tons or 37.5%. At the end of 2016, the National Bank had 258.1 tons of gold (27.1% of international reserves).
According to the reserves of precious metal, now Kazakhstan keeps the 18th place out of 100 countries.
In 2018, the owner of the largest gold reserve in the USA (8133.5 tons). Russia is on the 7th place, there are 1838.8 tons of this metal or 17.7% of the international reserves of the country. China's gold reserves surpassed Russia's. In China - 1842.6 tons, but in the structure of international reserves, gold occupies only 2.4%.
During a meeting with President Nursultan Nazarbayev the head of the National Bank, Daniyar Akishev noted that the volume of gold and foreign exchange reserves amounted to $ 30.7 billion in 2017. He estimated that in January the situation became even better. The bank's reserves grew by another 3% to $ 31.7 billion. The National Fund's assets in foreign currency amounted to $ 58.3 billion.
Earlier, he also said that Kazakhstan intends to enter the top 15 countries with the largest gold reserves.
