With the assist of the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan at the United Nations Office in Geneva was an event conserning the torture in Kazakhstan on the 39th session of the UN Human Rights Council, reports official site of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Republic of Kazakhstan.
UNHRC member states and observers representatives, and also international intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations were introduced to the experience of the National Torture Prevention Mechanism of Kazakhstan Republic.
In accordance with Kazakhstan Republic's ratification by the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention against Torture in 2014, the National Insurance Mechanism was created. The importance of this mechanism is to provide independent monitoring of correctional facilities, including penitentiary institutions, with members of the Coordinating Council of the Ministry of Justice, national human rights organizations, to detect and prevent torture and other ill treatment.
Saule Mektepbaeva, the secretary of the Coordinating Council of the National Insurance Mechanism, nominee of the Republic of Kazakhstan at the UN Subcommittee on Torture, independent expert; members of the Coordination Council of the National Insurance Mechanism, heads of the "Charter for Human Rights" non-governmental organizations of Kazakhstan - Zhemis Turmagambetova and "Union of Crisis Centers in Kazakhstan" - Zulfiya Baisakova and the representatives of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the General Prosecutor's Office and the Human Rights Office made a speech during the meeting. M.Silva, the Director of the UNDP office in Geneva, made a speech at the opening ceremony.
This event was organized by the Coordinating Council of the National Insurance Mechanism for the Prevention of Torture in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the UNDP office and Human Rights Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
