External debt of the Republic of Kazakhstan as of October 1, 2017 made up 168,9 billion US dollars and increased over the last 10 years by 74,6 billion dollars. This was reported by the press service of the National Bank.
The rise in external debt was mainly due to an increase in intercompany debt (+76,7 billion US dollars) due to the oil and gas projects of branches of foreign companies in the country.
According to the main bank, the external debt of the non-financial sectors of the economy (+26,2 billion US dollars) and the government (+10,8 billion US dollars) increased due to issuance of Eurobonds, credits and attraction of loans.
The external liabilities of the National Bank did not change: an average of the country's external debt made up 0,6%.

External debt of the financial sector decreased by 39,1 billion US dollars, due to the reduction of loans and borrowings from the banking sector (including "Development Bank of Kazakhstan" JSC) by 37,4 billion US dollars.
