Kazakh President Nazarbayev criticized the work of the SEZ in the regions and instructed not to create new economic zones, while the acting ones will not prove their effectiveness, at the expanded session of the Government of Kazakhstan.
"The manufacturing sector grew by 36% in real terms over the years of industrialization, in fact it was a success, while the share of manufacturing in the economy did not grow - as was 11%, it remains. One can explain that the raw material economy has also grown. But this explanation is not accepted, in general, it should grow, "Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed.
The head of state reminded that significant budgetary funds are spent for the creation of SEZ in the regions - 283 billion tenge for 11 such zones.
"Mayors of the regions continue to throw us papers, create new and new SEZ, let the government critically review these SEZ, what they and where they gave, and until we figure out, there are no new zones to create. Again, planned to invest 188 billion tenge in the SEZ. What is the effectiveness? Most of the SEZ have not become points of growth for their regions", the President said.
As an example, he cited the Taraz Chemical Park in the Zhambyl region, and for six years there have not been commissioned a single project.
