Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov congratulated the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the convincing victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by him in the general parliamentary elections, the Trend agency reports.
The Turkmen head expressed confidence that the high level of bilateral relations will continue to serve as a solid basis for enhancing Turkmen-Indian cooperation and interstate relations across the entire spectrum of areas.
Transport is considered one of the current areas of business partnership. The possibilities of the North-South transnational corridor project are being explored, using the potential of the seaports of the two countries.
Ashgabat and Delhi are also discussing interaction opportunities in the chemical and electric power industries. A special role is assigned to the construction project of the gas pipeline Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) with a capacity of 33 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Turkmenistan started the construction of its TAPI site in December 2015, this year it is possible that work will begin on the territory of Pakistan. As the leader of the consortium TAPI Pipeline Company Limited, the Turkmengas state concern has secured a controlling stake. The consortium also includes the Afghan Gas Corporation, Pakistani Inter State Gas Systems (Private) Limited and Indian GAIL.
