The Asian Development Bank will allocate $ 10 million to Tajikistan to study glaciers, the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Tajikistan reports.
“The ADB will allocate a grant in the amount of $ 10 million to study the state of glaciers for the implementation of a national disaster risk management project,” the message reads.
Glaciers of Tajikistan are planned to be explored by 2024. The project will support the country's efforts to integrate disaster management issues into development planning. Disaster risk modeling will be conducted, and national disaster risk maps and asset inventories will be prepared. An integrated disaster management information system and an early warning system will also be established.
Earlier it was reported that over the past 30 years, more than 1 thousand have disappeared from 14 thousand glaciers of Tajikistan, which are of vital importance for the entire region.
