The automobile and pedestrian bridge across the Pyanj River, which connects the Tajik district of Shokhin with the north of Afghanistan was opened, reports the border troops of the state national security committee of the country.
“Traffic on the bridge was opened at the request of the Afghan authorities. The settlements of Afghanistan, which are located on the other side of the bridge, were cut off from the central part of the country due to the descent of snow avalanches and their population threatened famine,” the message reads.
At the end of last week, at the request of official Kabul, traffic on the bridge was opened and trucks loaded with food and essential goods went from Tajikistan to northern Afghanistan.
Recall that the bridge was closed about six months ago in connection with the activation of the Taliban militants and drug smugglers on the adjacent side.
