Bishkek City Administration plans to complete the construction of a waste sorting plant by 2020. Mayor of Bishkek, Aziz Surakmatov, gave such order, reports 24kg.
Talgat Umetaliev, head of the Bishkek Sanitary Landfill municipal enterprise, reported that design and survey work was being carried out on the project «Improving Management of the Solid Household Waste System.»
Draft design of a new landfill and the main part of the engineering and technical solutions for construction work have been completed. In April 2019, it is planned to obtain a construction permit, and begin the construction from May, which is expected to be completed within a year.
The EBRD has allocated €22 million in the form of a grant and a loan. Using this money, the city authorities had to build a waste sorting plant and a new sanitary landfill, reclaiming the old one.
Earlier, the deputy of the Bishkek City Council Pavel Desyatnikov said that the capital has paid €135,000 of penalties for non-disbursement of the loan.
In November 2018, the deputies of the City Council created a working commission to check the implementation of the project. The prosecutor’s office of Bishkek opened a criminal case against officials of the Bishkek City Administration on the fact of using donor funds for the reconstruction of the Bishkek sanitary landfill.
