Kazakhstan will be able to achieve the task of processing 40% of waste by 2030 ahead of time, said the Vice-Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Sabit Nurlybay during the government hour Senate of Kazakhstan.
“As part of paragraph 15 of the national plan for the implementation of the Message to the people of Kazakhstan dated January 10, 2018, in coordination with the Ministry of Energy, akimats approved a set of measures for modern waste disposal and recycling with wide involvement of small and medium-sized businesses. We, other ministries, associations and the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs Atameken considered a set of measures and sent them to akimats. In turn, they adopted their administrative decision. If these works are implemented in due form, then the task of bringing the processing of solid household waste (PSH) up to 40% by 2030 will be able to be completed ahead of time, that is in 2-3 years,” the vice minister noted.
The Concept on the transition of Kazakhstan to a “green economy” envisages bringing the share of recycling to 40% by 2030, and by 2050 - to 50%. According to the Ministry of Energy, 5-6 million tons of PSH are generated annually in the country.
“For eight months of the current year, about three million tons of solid waste were collected, 33 thousand tons of them were recycled and disposed of - more than 10%. Currently, out of 221 settlements, separate garbage collection is implemented on the 41st. To increase the share of recycling of solid waste, work is underway to attract private investment. Today, there are more than 130 enterprises in the republic that sort and process waste, while producing more than 20 types of products,” Sabit Nurlybay informed.
