The government of Uzbekistan became the first donor to contribute to the UNESCO Special Account for non-earmarked voluntary contributions to support the approved UNESCO Program and Budget (C/5) in the amount of $ 120,000 since the creation of this new fund, reports the International Press Club of Uzbekistan.
This mechanism allows UNESCO to achieve greater effect by providing the secretariat with the flexibility to channel funds to under-funded program areas and respond to emerging needs.
The corresponding agreement on making a contribution was signed on October 5 on the eve of the visit of the President of Uzbekistan to UNESCO Headquarters in Paris between the Permanent Mission of the Republic to UNESCO and the Bureau of Strategic Planning of the organization.
