The solar power plant was launched in Azerbaijan, Trend reports.

"The solar power station in the Baku village of Sahil is connected to the power grid. The design capacity of the power plant is 2.8 MW. Thus, today in Azerbaijan solar power plants function in the cities of Gobustan and Samukh, the Baku villages of Pirallahi, Surakhani and Sahil. The solar power station in the village of Sahil is already connected to the power grid, and it functions. Also, preparations continue to connect the solar power station in Sumgayit. I think that this power plant will also be put into operation before the end of the year," said Deputy Chairman of the State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources Jamil Melikov.

Recall, the potential of renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan is over 25.3 thousand MW, which will produce 62.8 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. By 2020, it is planned to reach a capacity of 2,676 MW, which will be about 20 percent of all electricity generated in the country.
