Tajikistan took 75th place in the Global Index of Slavery for the year 2018 in the list of 167 countries.
The Global Slavery Index reports, in Tajikistan 39 thousand people live in conditions of modern slavery.
"Tens of thousands of Tajik citizens are in conditions of modern slavery in Russia, where according to the organization's estimates, there are 794 thousand slaves," the message reads.
By "modern slavery" in the index, it implies the exploitation of people who cannot refuse it because of threats, violence, coercion, deception or abuse of power.
According to the rating, in 10 countries 60% of the total number of slaves in the world live. In addition to Russia, such countries include India, China, Pakistan, North Korea, Nigeria, Iraq, Indonesia, the Congo and the Philippines.
