The President will be accompanied by the EBRD Director for Kazakhstan, Agris Preimanis.
During his visit President Chakrabarti will also sign several loan agreements related to EBRD investments in renewable energy and municipal infrastructure sectors. They will pave way for the development of public-private partnership projects in the country, provide better quality municipal services and help attract new investors in Kazakhstan.
At the FIC meeting, President Chakrabarti is expected to say that the EBRD takes great pride in the success of its engagement in Kazakhstan which combines investments with work on policy reform like, for instance, improvements of the business environment. Recent examples of this are Kazakhstan’s progress in the green economy, the capital market development, regional diversification and gender inclusion. A further step forward will be the inauguration of the Astana International Financial Centre, where the EBRD is playing an important role.
In 2017, the EBRD approved its new country strategy for Kazakhstan and signed a three-year Partnership Framework Arrangement with the country aimed at the modernisation and diversification of the national economy.
To date, the EBRD has invested over US$ 8.7 billion in the economy of Kazakhstan.
