In Uzbekistan, from January 1, 2019, the free issue of plastic bags in shops to ban. This is stated in the decree of the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev "On measures to further improve the management of domestic waste", reports the website of the national news agency Uza.

One of the problems preventing the creation of favorable conditions for environmental safety in the country is the excessive use and distribution of materials from polymer film, also the lack of a system of using alternative biodegradable materials, the document says.

"To prohibit from January 1, 2019 the free issue of packages of polymer film, the inclusion of their value in the cost of goods sold in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as their sale below the cost, with the exception of packages that do not have pens and are an integral part of the goods," resolution.

The document also prohibits the production in Uzbekistan of packages of polymer film with a thickness of less than 40 microns.
